Dental Elephant sends text messages as part of two optional programs for dental practices that subscribe to our service. SMS is not required to use Dental Elephant.
A short text message sent each scheduled morning (typically Monday–Friday) containing the practice name, the date, and a link to a private audio briefing of that day's schedule. The Commute Huddle is always available in the dashboard and by email — text messages are simply a convenience for staff who choose to receive them.
Text messages sent to the practice's office phone number when a patient uses the practice's online chatbot to request contact from the office, or when a patient claims an available appointment through Open Chairs. These notifications help the practice respond to patients promptly.
Dental Elephant requires consent before any text messages are sent. Consent for SMS is collected independently and is not bundled with any other agreement, terms of service, or account registration.
Each individual SMS recipient must provide their own, separate consent before any Commute Huddle messages are sent:
The practice owner (account holder) provides their office phone number in the Dental Elephant dashboard and enables practice notifications. By providing the office phone number and enabling this feature, the account holder consents to receive text messages about patient contact requests and appointment claims. Only the account holder can enable or disable these notifications.
Standalone consent only. SMS consent for all programs is collected independently and is not bundled with any other agreement, terms of service, or account registration. Opting out is simple — reply STOP at any time, or disable notifications in the dashboard.
Commute Huddle: Recipients receive approximately one (1) message per scheduled workday, on the days and at the time chosen by the practice owner in the dashboard. Most practices schedule messages Monday through Friday between 6:00 AM and 7:30 AM local time. The maximum frequency is one message per recipient per day.
Practice notifications: Message frequency varies based on patient activity. The practice receives one text per patient contact request or appointment claim. On a typical day, this may range from zero to several messages.
Message and data rates may apply. Dental Elephant does not charge recipients for these messages. Standard text messaging rates from your wireless carrier may apply depending on your mobile plan.
You can stop receiving text messages at any time by replying STOP to any message you receive from us. You will receive a single confirmation message and no further texts will be sent to your number.
Commute Huddle recipients may also ask their practice owner to remove their number from the recipient list in the dashboard. Practice owners may also disable practice notifications directly from their Dental Elephant dashboard.

Dental Elephant sends messages through Telnyx, a registered messaging provider. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Message delivery is not guaranteed and may be affected by your carrier, device, or signal.
Phone numbers provided to Dental Elephant are used solely to deliver the SMS notifications described on this page — Commute Huddle briefings and practice notification alerts. We do not sell, rent, share, or otherwise disclose mobile phone numbers or any information collected as part of our SMS programs to any third party for their own marketing purposes. Dental Elephant may update these SMS terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated to active practice account holders by email.
